Elevate Your BOS

No, I’m not suggesting you go pick up your boss. That would violate a LOT of HR rules…

I’m suggesting you take a little time to review & improve your Business Operating System, your BOS.

If you’re in business, you have a BOS. You may not know it or know what it is. However, every successful business has one, or they would not exist. Now, you may not know what it is or all the components of it, but we will talk about that at a high level in a few minutes.

Once you understand what it is and how you’re doing it, you can start looking at ways to improve it for the greater good of your company and your leadership.

What is the official definition of a BOS? We’ll go look it up if you want the office definition. I’m going to give it to you in layman’s terms.

Are you ready? It’s pretty fancy…drum roll, please: It’s how you run your business day-to-day. Yep, that’s it – how you are standardizing and systemizing on success. You do it and may not even know it.

A quick story, and then I’ll get you the meat and potatoes of this blog.

When I started my business, I read a lot of books, talked to a lot of business people, took…

a lot of classes, and tried to implement every good idea into my business. Guess what? I drove my peeps nuts. One literally told me one time, Sean, we love your energy and your ideas for improvement, but you got to slow down and let us implant one before going into the next one. Ha, slow down. I’m not sure what that meant.

I took that advice to heart and went out to research how to systemize my business so my crazy thoughts didn’t pull my team in every direction every day. Guess what I found, lots about Business Operating Systems.

The first few I implemented and tweaked in various ways to fit our elevator business. I ran across EOS, and it positively changed how I ran businesses. A simple set of rules, a systemized approach to running your business, and all for FREE…what, I like free.

EOS stands for Entrepreneurial Operating System, which is one of the BOS systems out there. We implemented it, and it made a huge difference; more to come on that in future blogs.
